Santanaの新譜情報が出た。


Stars join Santana for classic rock covers album

WENN -- Rapper Nas, Joe Cocker, Chris Cornell and The Doors keyboard player Ray Manzarek have teamed up with guitar great Carlos Santana for his new album of classic rock anthems.


Nas performs AC/DC's "Back in Black" with Santana, while Cocker tackles Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" and Soundgarden frontman Cornell provides vocals on a rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love."


Manzarek joins Santana for a new take on The Doors' "Riders on the Storm," and the guitarist insists the updated version of the song is "really far out and psychedelic".


Santana tells Rolling Stone magazine he was aiming to make a record that would turn women on: "I paid special attention to the groove so the females would get completely aroused."


最近のSantanaって、注目のゲスト・ヴォーカリストをどっさりと迎えてバブリーなアルバムを出していたじゃない？アメリカではMTVでギターソロを弾けるのはSantanaだけ、なんて言われているぐらいで。
勿論ウソなんだろうけど、何かそういわれたら、納得。。。みたいな。
今度のアルバムもNas（ラッパーだそうですが、私は知らない…）、Joe Cocker（久しぶりに聞く名前ですねぇ）やChris Cornellを迎えてカヴァー・アルバムを作るそうです。
ラッパーさんが歌うAC/DCの"Back in Black"、Joe Cockerが歌うJimi Hendrixの"Little Wing"、Chris Cornellが歌う"Whole Lotta Love"と。
Santana曰く「兎に角グルーヴにこだわった。これを聞いたら女の子達はいっちゃうよ」と。
落したい女の子がいたらこれを使え、ってSantana先生が仰っているわけです。


Santanaって元々カヴァーが多い。
一番有名なのはFleetwood Macの"Black Magic Woman"。Santanaのバージョンを聴いてからFleetwood Macのバージョンを聴いた、という人も多いでしょう。私もそう。
そして、所謂AOR期（？）に入った時代が凄い。私はこの辺りからリアル・タイムでSantanaを追う。
というかドライブの定番だったんだよ、Santanaが。オヤジが好きで。車だからカセット・テープだもの。"Inner Secrets"って78年？私、9歳！（うーん）
うちのSantanaの小部屋、次が"Inner Secrets"でさ。久しぶりに聞き返してみたら、オープニングからひっくり返った！えぇ、Trafficなんてやっていたんだ？？？




ギターに注目。
"Zebop!"って個人的に大好きなアルバムなんだけど、JJ Caleの"The Sensitive Kind"なんてのもある。
勿論このアルバムにはRainbowのあの曲も含まれているので要チェックだ。
